He worked hard to build his career, and as an Assistant Professor, he helped many students become doctors. Medical professionals work hard to learn their craft so that they can help diagnose and treat people who are ill or injured. This profession requires a lot of years and a lot of hard work.

The first step to becoming a doctor is to earn an undergraduate degree. You should enroll in a school that has a good science program. Ideally, you will study biology, chemistry, or pre-medical. This will take you four years, unless you attend a school that has a medical program and offers a fast track from undergraduate to medical school.

In your senior years of undergraduate school, you will need to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). After you have passed this exam, you may begin applying for medical schools. This level of education will take you four years. You will spend two years learning medical fundamentals in a classroom, and two years doing clinical work.

After medical school, you will have to do a residency program. This will provide you with on the job training and will allow you to specialize in a field of medicine. Your residency program can take anywhere from three years to seven years depending on your specialty. Some doctors then choose to pursue additional training through a fellowship program. Wessam Bou-Assaly completed a residency and two fellowship programs so that he could work in neuroradiology and nuclear medicine.
